About the story
Why does everyone keep telling Caroline to brush her teeth?
On Caroline’s island, the adults have one rule for teenagers: brush your teeth six times a day.
They say that if you don’t, La Dentiste will come for you.
Caroline isn’t sure she believes them. But there’s something else she can’t ignore:
None of the adults on the island have any teeth.
As Caroline begins asking questions, she discovers that the adults may be hiding something much stranger, and much more dangerous, than an old legend.

What age group is Le Manoir de La Dentiste appropriate for?
It's appropriate for middle school and up. It's on the level of a Goosebumps novel. Yes, it's sometimes scary and intense, though it does not feature any graphic violence. More than anything, the book is a mystery. -
What language level is the book written at?
The text is written at a Novice Mid level, which means it's generally appropriate for Levels 1 through 3. Although such a large range might seem odd, remember that graphic novels are quite different from straight text. With 75% of the story being told via illustrations, students have much higher tolerances for unknown vocabulary and structures. We have seen this story be very successful from beginner Spanish classes all the way through heritage classes. -
Is the legend of The Dentist a lie?
Sorry, I would never dare spoil that here. But I will say that this book will have your students guessing until the very last page. It's first and foremost a mystery, and it's a darn good one. -
Who translated this book to French?
I had the pleasure of working with the excellent translator, Agnès Denvir, a native speaker of France as well as a French teacher. Not only is her language impeccable, but she also knows how to pare down the language to essential high-frequency structures. Additional translations were made by Cécile Laine, another native speaker and French teacher. Of course, don't take my word for it. Please read the 18-page preview. -
